Why should I apply to be a Summer Associate at Teamworthy Ventures?
The best reason is that you enjoy anticipating ways to help others succeed in their work and achieve their mission. You should enjoy reading, writing, and speaking with others about their ideas, projects, opportunities, and challenges. You should be interested in pursuing personal and team excellence in the work described below.
What qualifications should I have?
We want to work with people of integrity who are smart and curious. We welcome applications from undergraduates, MBA students, and law school students. You should be a current student with a strong academic record, demonstrated leadership experience, a high aptitude and enthusiasm for qualitative and quantitative information, and a servant-leader disposition towards your classmates, teammates, colleagues, and mentors.
Our partners have degrees in history, medicine, and law. Previous Summer Associates have majored in Computer Science, History, Philosophy, Biomedical Engineering, Classics, Electrical Engineering, Entrepreneurship and more. Our previous Summer Associates have attended MIT, Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Penn, UVA, Babson, Notre Dame, Lehigh, and more.

What will I do as a Summer Associate at Teamworthy Ventures?
Immediately, you will join portfolio company meetings and participate in our internal investment and portfolio value creation meetings. From the first week, you will begin to meet entrepreneurs and learn about their businesses. We pair each of our Summer Associates with one of our Partners so you have an opportunity to develop faster into successful venture investors.
Unlike other internships, you will NOT be given boring busy work. You will be contributing immediately as a member of our team. As you quickly develop your abilities as an investor, you will be responsible for pursuing new investment opportunities, building new relationships with entrepreneurs, and conducting research on companies under consideration by our team. Before, during, and after our investment in a business, you will help our team support our portfolio companies by introducing them to new customers, partners, and team members.
Throughout the summer you will:
- complete our weekly reading curriculum (see below)
- explore new investment themes
- propose new investment ideas to our partners
- complete week-long projects inside our portfolio companies
- meet other professional investors as guest speakers
- develop a network of peer investors
Our Summer Associates typically work two days a week in our Greenwich, Connecticut office (a short train ride away from New York City). We also support interns interested in working all or part of the summer remotely. Our Summer Associates typically join us for 10 weeks during the summer as we evaluate together your potential to join our team full-time after you graduate. Our full-time Associates will generally work for two years with us before becoming Principals at the firm or pursuing other opportunities in investing, entrepreneurship, or further education. Once we hire you, your development matters to us. Our business works better and is more enjoyable if everyone is constantly getting better at what they do and suggests ways we can get better together.
Our Summer Reading Curriculum
Together our entire investment team reads and discusses a summer curriculum with broad exposure to technology, business history and biography, entrepreneurship, strategy and more.
Previous books include:
- Made in America by Sam Walton
- Fanatical Prospecting by Jeb Blount
- Business Model Generation Handbook by Alexander Osterwalder and Yves Pigneur
- Four Steps to the Epiphany by Steve Blank
- The Innovator’s Dilemma by Clayton Christensen
- The Everything Store by Brad Stone
- Competitive Strategy by Michael Porter

A note on your future
All of our current full-time Associates joined us after completing our Summer Associate program. Other Summer Associates have gone on to successful early careers at McKinsey, JMI Equity, and other professional and academic opportunities.
You will be facing a big decision on how to invest your time and gifts after graduation. We recognize that our Associates possess and develop unique talents and interests. You may decide in a few years that you have entrepreneurial aspirations that exceed even the wide scope our Associate role offers for helping our companies and pursuing great entrepreneurial teams. At that time, our partners would welcome an opportunity to help you build your own venture.
Our Application Process
Our team will review your short application (below). If there is a potential fit, one of our partners will follow up with you directly to schedule a brief Zoom interview, followed by additional Zoom interviews with our partners and investment team. Your interview process may include a brief investment research project to help us discern together your interest and ability to contribute to the work of our investment team.
