District Parole Officers supervise offenders who have been released on parole or mandatory supervision to complete their sentences while living in Texas communities. Their mission is to promote public safety and positive offender change through effective supervision, programs and services. They obtain information and prepare documentation related to offenders and parole supervision activities. They spend a lot of time in the community, verifying employment and residential plans of offenders, conducting parole investigations, and liaison activities with criminal justice agencies, social services agencies, and other public and private entities. District Parole Officers are organized into five regions, with regional offices located in San Antonio, Lubbock, Houston, Dallas and Tyler. There are a total of 67 Parole offices located through out the state.

District Parole Officers benefit from the following:

  • A comprehensive six-week training at the Parole Officer Training Academy conducted at the TDCJ facility in Austin
  • Work-related training seminars and conferences
  • Hazardous duty pay based on years of services

Annual salary adjustments and career path advancement based upon satisfactory months of consecutive service and job performance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE). Major course work in Criminal Justice, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field preferred.

2. Case work or case processing experience in the criminal justice or social services field preferred.

3. Computer operations experience preferred.

4. Must meet and maintain Texas Risk Assessment System (TRAS) access eligibility for continued employment in position.

5. Must possess a valid state driver license. Must maintain valid license(s) for continued employment in position. Must have or be able to obtain a certificate of course completion for the Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) policy and procedures training from the Texas Department of Public Safety within six months of employment date.
