Remote Publicity/ Communications Winter/Spring Internship

The communications assistant (intern) will work with the Communications Chair, the house representatives, the local website representatives, the national NSCDA communications team and the local office manager to plan and promote public events including historic house tours and special events. Computer knowledge needed as well as form generating skills. Photos files available and some press releases done previously.

Time off exam and vacation weeks. Summer extension possible upon review. Position is January – May, exact dates to be mutually agreed upon.

  • Training done via FaceTime, Skype or telephone.
  • Hours flexible approximately 5 -10 hours per week internship or volunteer position available.
  • Position is entirely remote.

There are preseason and during season job descriptions:

PRE SEASON (winter/ spring/ fall)

Write short articles for each property using our docent information package to generate ideas and research skills. Embellish on any of these subjects: the building or property, the contents of houses or the families that lived there and colonial education. These articles will be dropped in to a common press release format during the season to appropriate audiences. These only need be 2 or 3 paragraphs. We will have a file for each house ready for distribution in season.

Media lists update current media lists with contact name and e mail or address, publication days, publication deadlines.

Social Media update cross promotion lists and note which pages allow EVENTS to be posted. Creat Instagram # lists. Create short creative posts with photos to prepare for summer.

.com sites Submit photos, description and house tour and event dates prior to season opening. Slight edits each week and fresh photos. This includes, but, not limited to: wicked local, the History List, SpinGO, the boston calendar, any free geographically applicable sites. Send schedules via e mail to chambers of commerce and other on line event platforms including MA Humanities, Antique Homes Magazine, South Coast Almanac and Visit NE.

Media plan: Submit for each house what day you will be submitting and to where for each house event.

calendars: submit house event schedules to National NSCDA and to NSCDA MA

website: submit 2021 info to NSCDA MA website representatives

IN SEASON (summer)

press releases: Intern will distribute to media on deadline schedules and the intern is expected to creatively enhance coverage that week if there are organizations that may find that weeks topic interesting.

social media: maintain all three house pages, be sure hours are updated. Generally, post one creative teaser in Newfeed that week, create an event and post day prior to event on newsfeed including photos. Cross promote once a week to cross promotion pages with event if applicable.

.com sites promote any special events not done pre season

Note: Pre season and in season varies according to each house. Most of the internship tasks will be completed remotely.
