About University College and Tufts Pre-College Programs
Tufts University’s Pre-College Programs is one of three exciting divisions within University College, Tufts’ newest college established in 2018. University College is dedicated to offering programs, degrees, and certificates for learners of all ages and interests. Within University College, Tufts Pre-College Programs specifically aims to introduce to over 700 high school students to exciting topics of study, while giving them a dose of the college experience. We currently offer 18 exciting programs, across both academic semesters and the summer for students to dive right into pursuing their biggest passions and wildest aspirations.
Tufts University’s Pre-College Programs is looking for an operations intern to assist with the day-to-day operations of the Pre-College team for the current spring and upcoming summer and fall terms. Interested applicants may apply to work any of the spring, summer, and/or fall semesters, but ideal candidates will be able to continue working with our team for more than one semester.
Operations Interns can generally expect to:
— Assist Director, Associate Director and Program Administrators in managing the day-to-day operations of Tufts Pre-College Programs
— Help manage correspondence for Pre-College Programs by responding to questions and concerns over the phone or by email from students, families, faculty, and University stakeholders
— Run basic reports and queries, and upload various application documents to our application server, Slate
— Assist with other duties or projects as assigned (ex: scholarship research, proactive enrollment calls, etc.)
— Manage University College social media accounts
— Pitch, create, and proofread all social media and marketing posts and materials
In the academic year (Spring Semester: January – May; Fall Semester: September – December), specific responsibilities include:
— Support Program Administrators responsible for the Courses at Tufts for High Schoolers and Tufts Research Experience programs
— General program support (ex: direct support to Program Administrators, running queries through Slate, fielding phone calls and emails, etc.)
— Potential opportunities for financial aid / scholarship research, and aiding in grant writing for scholarship funding
In the summer (May to August), specific responsibilities include:
— General summer program support (ex: Canvas site setup, organizing/running student social events, running student orientations, etc.)
— Assist in general program implementation of pre-college workshops, such as College Prep 101 (Planning, preparation, and execution of college readiness sessions, virtual admissions tours, and breakout sessions)
— Provide general backup support for the Tufts Summer Research Experience
Hours expected to work per week
— 5-10 hours/week (Spring Semester: February – May; Fall Semester: September – December)
— 15-20 hours/week (Summer)
Operations Interns should have the following qualifications in order to be seriously considered for the position:
— Highly proficient writing and interpersonal skills
— Previous experience with customer service
— Strong sense of professionalism
— Rigorous attention to detail, balancing multiple priorities and deadlines a must
— Experience or proficiency with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign
— Strong familiarity with social media and community management, specifically on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn
