The ideal candidate holds a graduate degree in Electrical or Mechanical engineering and must be able to work well with the team and have a good judgment on when to seek help from the team lead and other team members. An interest in working on engineering projects involving Rail or Aviation is a plus!

Starting Salary Range: $48,641 – $59,498
As an entry-level General Engineer you will assist higher-level engineers in performing duties involving basic principles of engineering and will work as a member of a project team in one of Volpe’s engineering organizations.

- The candidate for this position will primarily be supporting projects related to Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT), including work on Automated Driving Systems (ADS). Safe ADS operations are dependent on accurate position and velocity information of the vehicle and surrounding objects. This information needs to be provided reliably and in a timely manner to ADS subsystems. The candidate will be responsible for implementation of driving scenarios/test vectors to generate simulated sensor data using Matlab and/or Python, data processing and analysis collected GPS, IMU, Lidar, sensors data. The candidate will have strong analytical and communication skills, an understanding of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), an understanding of Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs),an understanding of Kalman Filtering and be proficient in Matlab.

- The candidate will support ongoing project work to improve the safety and efficiency of rail vehicles, highway vehicles, and rail infrastructure. The candidate will be responsible for supporting analytical and experimental engineering studies which are intended to evaluate and improve the safety and dynamic performance of vehicles and structures for conventional and high speed ground transportation systems.
