Position Description – Junior Specialist – Dr. Yu Lab
NATURE AND PURPOSE
This position is in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine and the Lab is located at the Oak Park Research Building in Sacramento. This position’s responsibilities will be supporting Prof. Yu’s lab by assisting with several research projects, including the studies on anticancer pharmacology and experimental therapeutics as well as RNA bioengineering technology and therapies. The candidate will also be contacting and keeping open communication with the other Departments, Centers and Institutions with whom Prof. Yu is an active collaborator.
Responsibilities of the junior specialists will include the production of recombinant ncRNAs, evaluation of ncRNA functions and therapeutic potential in vitro and in vivo, and/or bioanalysis with HPLC and LC-MS/MS instruments. Specifically, the appointees will be involved in the construction of target plasmids, expression, purification and analysis of target ncRNAs, and/or examination of ncRNA functions in the control of cancer cellular processes as well as anticancer efficacy and safety of ncRNAs, and/or determination of anticancer activities of new agents or combinations, and/or quantification of endo-/xeno-biotic drugs and metabolites. In many cases, appointee will be required to provide technical supports for other investigators or students within Prof. Yu lab regarding the technical aspects of the research including method development, trouble-shooting problems, interpreting results and planning follow-up experiments.
PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE AND ACTIVITY (10%)
Appointees will be responsible for the organization, preparation, and maintenance of records for technical reports and presentations. She/he will also be responsible for keeping database of freezer (-80C and liquid nitrogen) stocks. Responsible for operating necessary laboratory equipment, maintaining adequate stocks of laboratory supplies. The lab strives to maintain a collaborative and respectful atmosphere, in an active sharing of research tools and information which is essential to this atmosphere. Appointee will also participate in the preparation of manuscripts for publication in scientific journals as well as presentations at society, university and scientific meetings.
UNIVERSITY AND PUBLIC SERVICE (5%)
The individual will engage in public outreach activities that include maintaining liaison and response to the needs of various industry organizations, state and federal agencies, and other external groups on issues related to area of expertise.
