HJF is seeking a Research Peer Support Specialist to support the Suicide Care, Prevention, and Research Initiative (Suicide CPR Initiative) within the Department of Medical and Clinical Psychology (MPS) located in Rockville, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to MPS. This is a telework position, offering Part-Time or Full-Time hours during the standard business day.

The Research Peer Facilitator will serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team of investigators, clinicians, and graduate students, and will serve as peer facilitator for Mil-iTransition, a telephone-based intervention for military personnel and/or Veterans found “unfit for duty” following medical and physical evaluation boards. Additionally, if converted to a full-time employee, the Research Peer Facilitator will contribute to several different research projects on suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention.
- Contributes to the conceptualization and write-up of the Mil-iTransition intervention protocol; serves as a peer facilitator for Mil-iTransition (e.g., follows procedures for telephone-based intervention delivery, suicide risk assessment and management, adverse event reporting, and regular supervision/consultation). (50%)
- Assists with the preparation of scientific reports, scholarly manuscripts, and Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols. (10%)
- Assists with the conduct of literature reviews and preparation of written summaries. (10%)
- Participates in regular meetings and coordinates with study personnel and case managers. (10%)
- Performs data collection, data entry, and clean up; assists with transcription of confidential interviews. (10%)
- Serves in one or more of the following capacities: Functions as a coder for military suicide death reviews and contributes to written executive summaries, presentation slides, and timelines and/or travels to research implementation sites (e.g., recruits participants, collects data, etc.). (10%)
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have first-hand experience of MEB/PEB, Peer Support Specialist Certification, and/or at least one year of peer support experience. Preference may be given to medically separated or medically retired service members who have had experience within this area of research.
Minimum Education: Associate degree in psychology, social work or related field is required.
Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: 3-5 years of relevant work experience is required. Additional desired qualifications include certification in peer support or as a peer specialist, at least one year of professional peer support/peer specialist experience, prior experience in a research environment, strong writing and editing skills, and interest or experience in suicide prevention research.
Work Environment: This is a telework position.
Background/Security: Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier I investigation/Public Trust and a Common Access Card (CAC).
