The Westchester Export Assistance Center, a division of the US Department of Commerce, offers challenging internships to undergraduate students who are considering a career in international business.
Our mission is to assist small and medium-size firms engaged in international trade. We provide one-on-one business counseling services, foreign trade leads, market research on products and services, and a variety of other resources. Being the premier government organization involved in international trade, the Commercial Service can offer a unique internship opportunity in international business.
Throughout the internship, the intern will conduct a host of duties that range from responding to trade related inquiries to international market research. Students will work with International Trade Specialists to assist businesses in the New York area with their export efforts. They will conduct market research to determine suitable export markets, analyze trade data to identify export trends, and participate in marketing and promotional campaigns to generate interest in trade events. Other duties include researching NY manufacturing and service companies to determine the extent of their international activities, assisting companies in locating foreign agents and distributors for their products, and pursuing foreign trade leads provided by commercial officers at U.S. embassies abroad. Not only will the intern gain an insight into international market research and exporting, but the student also acquires an understanding of the way the federal government works and the resources available to U.S. businesses.
Internships are usually for four-month periods and can be extended. Summer Internships are available and can be for a shorter period of time. The internship is a voluntary effort. We request that an intern have at least eight to sixteen hours a week to offer. Students must be United States citizens.
