Full-time Arts, Communications & MediaExpires February 1, 2021

Maybe you’ve got an ear for rhythm, an eye for detail, a mind for research—and a stomach for revision, revision, revision. Maybe you’ve been mesmerized by a soaring keynote, or fidgeted through a dull one, and wondered about the process that makes speeches what they are. Maybe you’ve been inspired by a powerful essay, or read one and thought, “I could make that better!”

If so, you might be just the person we’re looking for.

West Wing Writers offers full-time, paid internships to a select few candidates who are interested in learning more about a career in speechwriting and strategic communications.

We don’t expect interns to have written speeches before, but we do want people who love to write and are excellent researchers; people who are creative, curious, thoughtful, motivated, and dependable.

As an intern, you’ll be an integral part of the West Wing Writers team, learning about, observing, and even contributing to the process by which big ideas are formed, articulated, and amplified. All our interns are paired with an on-staff mentor who provides feedback and guidance throughout the internship, and will have the opportunity to learn about research and writing through structured seminars and a variety of projects.

Our interns have gone on to write for leaders at the Human Rights Campaign, Teach for America, Planned Parenthood, and YouTube; for foreign ambassadors, senators, and cabinet secretaries — even for the President of the United States.

The internship is full-time—9am-6pm, five days a week—and interns receive a $3,000 stipend each month. The application period for the 2021 West Wing Writers Summer Internship (June-August) is now open.

The internship is only open to rising college seniors and college graduates.

We will accept applications for summer internships until 5:00 pm EST on February 1st. Due to COVID-19, all internships will be remote until further notice.

West Wing Writers is committed to a diverse workplace. Women, people of color, and LGBTQ people are strongly encouraged to apply.
