The Center for Early Learning is seeking a Research Associate I to work with a team of researchers and program specialists. This work will include early-intervention research and evaluation projects aimed at supporting school readiness and school achievement of young children in public preschool programs and elementary schools.
The ideal candidate has a strong background and interest in research and project management, and will have an aptitude for problem solving, organization, and attention to detail. Research responsibilities will include the monitoring of data collection by project staff conducted in field settings such as preschool or elementary school classrooms. Research responsibilities also include management of project data and assistance in the preparation of grant proposals and reports.
Project Management (40%) – Work collaboratively with project directors, research and administrative staff, and external project partners to plan and conduct education research projects conducted in field settings such as preschools and elementary schools
Implementation Monitoring (30%) – Monitor the collection of implementation data (e.g., classroom observation or home learning environment data) in research projects
Data Management (20%) – Build, merge, and manage large datasets; format and prepare databases for analysis by a project statistician
Production Lead (10%) – Assist project directors in the preparation of grant proposals and reports for federal and state agencies and private foundations
SPECIAL NOTICE REGARDING THE WORK LOCATION OF THIS POSITION – Currently, all staff at WestEd are working from home until further notice. Once we return to offices, this position will be based in WestEd’s offices in Alameda, CA.
- Graduate degree in psychology, human development, or early childhood education is strongly preferred
- Psychological or educational research experience
- Project management skills and experience, preferably in the context of research projects
- Proven history of working collaboratively with a variety of staff, while attending to multiple priorities
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
- Comfortable with a variety of technology-based tools and software
