WRC offers 4th year veterinary students a very hands-on clinical veterinary externship experience in wildlife rehabilitation medicine.
We strive to teach and improve clinical skills working with non-domestic species. Topics covered include (but are not limited to): venipuncture, hematology, parasitology, radiology, anesthesiology, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, wound management, drug and fluid administration, physical therapy, and necropsy.
In addition to the above clinical skills, students will also gain experience in topics relevant to wildlife rehabilitation including identification of native Minnesota wildlife species, and knowledge of natural history, feeding habits, husbandry requirements, and more.
Our 4th year veterinary externships require a minimum time commitment of 2 weeks, however longer time periods are recommended in order to get the most out of the experience.
Application requirements: resume, cover letter, one letter of recommendation, proof of rabies vaccination and current rabies titer (must be within the past 2 years) and available dates (please include 3 preferred time blocks)
Please visit the “Work With Us” tab on our website for submitting required application materials.
