Position Details:

Witness to Mass Incarceration (WITNESS) is working on a series of curricula/syllabi that offer a radical reimagining of how we address various harms. Power is currently in the hands of people who appear to be openly hostile to the most marginalized in society (Black people, Native people, the poor, LGBTQ+, immigrant communities, and more). Our vision for designing these curricula is one with an awareness of the horrors of the prison system – and the action that awareness demands. The Curriculum Developer will help create the syllabus and lesson plans for these courses as well as curate supplemental materials.

Responsibilities and Expected Outcomes:

  • Assist in designing a syllabus for a class on mass incarceration
  • Find and schedule speakers on each class topic
  • Find outside resources (readings, films, podcasts, etc.) to accompany each week
  • Manage instructional materials
  • Prepare weekly lesson plans

Qualifications, Credentials, and Technical Skills Required:

  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Experience in curriculum creation
  • Education or related major recommended

This internship is remote, with an option to be hybrid. It runs throughout the winter, spring, summer, and fall semesters. Because this is an unpaid internship, Witness to Mass Incarceration is happy to provide recommendations or references for all interns. In terms of internship credit, some educational institutions require prior approval before the start of an internship. It is the responsibility of the student to check with their institution to be sure they meet any requirements before they accept a position.

About WITNESS

Witness to Mass Incarceration (WITNESS) is dedicated to fostering economic liberation for formerly incarcerated individuals (FIP), system-impacted persons, LGBTQ+ youth, women, and the migrant community. We achieve this by creating a hub of excellence in entrepreneurship and innovation for these communities, providing comprehensive vocational training, social enterprise solutions, and robust support systems. Our mission is to cultivate economic independence, reduce recidivism, and nurture generational wealth, dismantling systemic barriers and advancing equality for all we serve.
