Volunteered Human Rights Committee Member Representing the North Shore

We are in search for a volunteer sitting on a Human Rights Committee at WORK Inc., a non-profit organization serving people with disabilities. Its headquarter is located in Dorchester, MA and other programs are in throughout different regions in the state. The Committee is composed of a Chairperson and volunteer members with diverse backgrounds in laws, health, nursing, social work, family, professionals, and a person with disability. We are looking for a volunteered member who lives, attends school, or works in Andover, Methuen, Winthrop, and surrounding towns and cities to represent the North Shore area.

The purpose of the committee is to promote, safeguard, and protect the human dignity and legal rights of individuals receiving supports from WORK Inc. To meet this objective the Committee reviews and monitors WORK Inc.’s practices and procedures and makes recommendations with the intent of promotion the rights of disabled persons in the program.

The Human Rights Committee meets in-person four times per year. Verbal and/or written notification of the time and location of the meetings shall be sent to or communicated to each member. Meetings are held 2nd or 3rd Monday every three months at WORK Inc. headquarters in-person in Dorchester. Conference calls are available if Committee members are not physically available at the meetings. At each in-person meeting, members review the human rights related documents presented by a program staff, ask questions, and vote for a decision. Buffet dinner is provided.

The Committee has been following the state of Massachusetts and WORK Inc.’s guidelines during COVID-19 pandemic to hold virtual meetings on ZOOM.
