Full-time Government, Law & International AffairsExpires May 28, 2021

Undergraduate, graduate and law students who are interested in educating about, promoting and advocating human rights and world citizenship are encouraged to apply for this 3 to 4 month, 4 to 8 (or more) hours per week internship (hours are flexible). This Summer 2021 session will be held online.

Interns write to individuals whose rights have been violated and contact heads of state and government ministries in order to expose violations and demand redress on the individuals’ behalf. You will research and apply various human rights declarations and treaties as well as national constitutions and international human rights procedures when applicable.

Qualifications: Excellent communication skills required and multi-lingual applicants (especially French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian and German speakers) are preferred. An interest or activism in peace, law, sustainability, and global politics is helpful.

The World Law Internship provides experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in legal research and writing in a professional setting. Student interns will have the opportunity to gain valuable applied experience and make connections in the fields of law and international relations. The internship provides hands-on training, allowing students to take their classroom learning into a real world experience. Students will gain skills and knowledge that will prepare them for law school or graduate school, or will engage current law or graduate students in a deeper understanding of international law and international relations. Interested applicants are encouraged to read our five-page “Internship Training Plan” that details the learning objectives/goals of the internship program that are related to the professional goals of the student’s academic coursework. The training plan is an attachment that you may view on our organizational profile in Handshake. The internship program is conducted and supervised by a human rights lawyer with more than 30 years’ experience in the fields of human rights, international law, and international relations. Student interns will receive daily feedback by the experienced supervisor and will have the resources, equipment, and facilities provided by the organization to support the students’ learning objectives/goals.
