Iterate

Adjust … and keep moving

Career & Life Design isn’t a one-time decision—it’s a process. As you try things out, you’ll learn what works, what doesn’t, and what feels right.  Iteration means using what you’ve learned to make small adjustments, refine your ideas, and keep moving forward.

Here’s how to iterate effectively:

  • Reflect on what you’ve tried: What did you enjoy? What felt off?
  • Use feedback: From advisors, mentors, peers, or your own experience.
  • Make small changes: Tweak your goals, try a new approach, or explore a different option.
  • Stay flexible: Your path may shift—and that’s part of the process.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s progress.

Questions to Guide Your Iteration

  • What did I learn from the last step I took (event, conversation, job, class, etc.)?
  • What felt energizing or interesting? What felt draining or ‘off?’
  • Did I get any feedback—formal or informal—that I should consider?
  • What assumptions did I make that might need rethinking?
  • What’s one small change I can make based on what I’ve learned?
  • Do I need to revisit an earlier step (like brainstorming or experimenting)?
  • What’s my next move, and what do I hope to learn from it?
