Internship Spotlight: JVS Boston

Current Tufts student Sarah Beatty shared the following about being a Summer Intern at JVS Boston

What did you do as an intern at this organization?
I worked in the Career Path Now Department and was mainly responsible for conducting intake calls to potential clients, first appointments with new clients, and giving presentations about JVS to the DTA.

How did you find this internship?
I found this internship on Handshake!

What did you enjoy most about your internship?
I loved holding first appointments with clients. Each person had such a rich and impressive story and it was so nice getting to meet them and speak with them. I feel really honored I was able to help amazing people when they needed support.

What did you find challenging?
Remote internships can be challenging! I often found myself wishing to exist in the same space as my colleagues and be able to build relationships in person rather than over zoom.

What advice would you offer to someone who wants to make the most of an internship like yours?
The most important thing about doing this kind of client work is listening. People can tell if you are just talking to them to get information versus really wanting to support them. It is much easier to know how to help clients if you deeply listen.
