Program Intern (Paid Opportunity) at One Bead

Today’s Internship Spotlight — A paid, part-time (3-6 hours/week) internship in Boston for students interested in Education/Nonprofit/Social Impact — check it out!

About One Bead

One Bead’s mission is to close the opportunity gap in Boston. We do this by partnering exclusively with elementary and middle schools in low-income communities where students identify predominantly as African American or Hispanic/Latino. Our after-school leadership programs provide students with opportunities to thrive outside of the classroom and exposure to new experiences–both of which play a critical role in establishing career pathways for young students of color.

Our Model

We provide students with opportunities to build leadership skills in both virtual and in-person settings. Our virtual program is called the Local Leader Spotlight series. A Local Leader Spotlight is a 30-minute interview featuring a BIPOC business owner, civic leader, and/or entrepreneur. Interviews take place weekly on Zoom and are co-hosted by one of our students. To date, we’ve featured over 60 leaders representing industries ranging from fashion to finance.

After the interview series wraps up, we nominate 15–20 students to participate in our in-person, after-school program. During this semester-long program, students learn how to use their voices and unique skillsets to advocate for change in the community. Students meet once a week with their instructor to practice public speaking. Each session ties in themes from the Local Leader Spotlight series around leadership, identity, and self-advocacy. At the very end of the program, students present on a topic of their choosing in front of a small audience.
