Internship Spotlight: Boston Children’s Hospital

Current student Rebecca Gable shared the following about being an Intern at Boston Children’s Hospital …

What did you do as an intern at this organization?
I worked on a variety of projects as an intern at BCH. I collected data for project involving Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and helped prepare for a study regarding heart failure in children with preserved ejection fraction. I lead a project that involved creating digestible videos that contained important information on heart transplant/care for parent education purposes.

How did you find this internship?
I found this internship through a personal connection.

What did you enjoy most about your internship?
I loved shadowing in the office and meeting the patients. I learned so much about bedside manner and patient doctor interactions. The doctors I shadowed were all extremely smart and generous teachers.

What did you find challenging?
The internship was challenging at some points when I spent long hours collecting data from the computer.

What advice would you offer to someone who wants to make the most of an internship like yours?
I would suggest staying very organized and knowing where you are in different projects. I also suggest writing down as much as you can in meetings because It is always helpful to look back on what expectations were for a certain task. My third tip would be ask questions. A lot of medical internships and shadowing opportunities can feel like you are in over your head, but everyone is so helpful and wants to teach you – so just ask!
