Three Questions with Jacob Totz about the Wall Street Prep seminar:
How did you prepare for the Wall Street Prep seminar?
I reviewed accounting fundamentals and Microsoft Excel shortcuts before the seminar. The instructors refer to these concepts throughout the course. After signing up, I received online access to WSP’s courses, which were a great source of information to get up to speed before we started.
How was the Wall Street Prep seminar? What did you get out of it?
The WSP seminar is very hands-on. I learned how to apply financial concepts to financial modeling tasks that investment bankers do on the job. It was great preparation for my investment banking internship. The instructors did a good job of explaining the concepts to us, even though we had varying degrees of prior financial experience. Some students were beginners and others were advanced, but everyone learned at least one thing in the seminar.
What would you have done differently? OR What was your biggest learning outcome from participating?
The biggest learning outcome from participating was going from knowing about financial modeling to knowing how to do financial modeling. In the seminar, we did a merger model for a real company, which I never did before. The instructors were great about helping us through the learning process.
