Internship Spotlight: The Carey Lab for Developmental Studies

Current student Kayla Drazan shared the following about being an intern at the The Carey Lab, at the Harvard University Laboratory for Developmental Studies…

How did you find this internship?
In the Tufts Psychology Opportunities Digest, the LDS advertised looking for a lab manager. I reached out to the attached contact information to ask if they would also be looking for summer interns!

What did you enjoy most about your internship?
Everyone in the Psychology department at Harvard was so cool and I really profited from meeting and connecting with other Psychology department interns, graduate students, post-docs, and professors. I learned so much about the different paths people take into their careers and what motivates them to pursue their passion in research. I made a lot of friends in the intern community and feel so grateful to have been able to work with people I admire, respect, and really like!

What did you find challenging?
It was challenging having to balance all the responsibilities of managing a study (recruiting, running the study, qualitative coding etc) in a structured day.

What advice would you offer to someone who wants to make the most of an internship like yours?
Take a break between school and the internship. School is hard and research is hard and without a break, you risk burnout. I wish I had taken more time to rest before diving into this internship and after coming back to school because it definitely was a lot of work!
