Internship Spotlight: Ganance

Current student Vaughn Seelicke shared the following about being an intern at Ganance…

How did you find this internship?
I took an entrepreneurship class from Professor Ocampo. He was an excellent teacher and he fueled my interest in learning more about entrepreneurial pursuits. In addition, Professor Ocampo introduced the concept of Ganance as a start-up in class. His concept for Ganance was something I thought was solid and intriguing. I approached Professor Ocampo after class one day and asked if his company was accepting interns for the summer. He said that I could be his first intern ever!

What did you enjoy most about your internship?
I most enjoyed being able to work 1-on-1 with and learn from the CEO/Founder Alex Ocampo. I was able to shadow him and learn a ton due to the small size of the company. Mr. Ocampo was an excellent mentor. Even in his hectic schedule, he made time to answer my questions and help me learn about many aspects of a start-up.

What did you find challenging?
At times it was challenging to be remote for my internship. Technical issues or shaky wifi and time zone differences made my work slightly challenging at times. However, these issues were minimal and did very little to change the overall learning and enjoyment of my internship experience.

What advice would you offer to someone who wants to make the most of an internship like yours?
Attack every opportunity that is given. The point of an internship is to try and experience as much of the business as you can. Do not hesitate to ask for work in sectors that excite you. If you enjoy your job you will most likely deliver better quality work and may find a path for your future.
