Mark Lannigan, ’23, Regional Assistant for Senator Ed Markey
1. In just a few sentences, please tell us about your current job/graduate program/vocational endeavor.
I currently serve as Regional Assistant on Senator Ed Markey’s state team. I am in-state point-person on several issues areas, telecommunications and emerging technology among others, and serve on the Senator’s regional team to conduct outreach around the state. I come to the office following seven years staffing political campaigns in Massachusetts, from local to state and federal races. I also currently serve as a Massachusetts Democratic State Committee Member.
2. How did your time at Tufts influence your career journey?
My classes at Tufts made me a deeper thinker and helped me to refine my critical thinking and decision-making skills. They also helped me to think systematically about issues and vigilantly question my underlying assumptions, crucial to effective decision-makin
3. What advice would you offer to a student who wants to pursue a career path like yours?
All politics is truly local. No matter what level of government and politics you want to work on, an understanding of local issues is critical. Get involved with local organizing in your community early and often
