Position Summary
As part of the engineering team, the R&D Engineer Co-Op will assist in medical device development and work on multiple projects.
Essential Duties
- Assist the R&D team in mechanical or electrical design, data collection, and generation of reports
- Assist internal teams in researching different equipment/manufacturing processes from the initial idea to bring the processes in-house
- Build and modify experimental platforms for feasibility and verification testing
- Verify that designs meet functional requirements through the performance of engineering analyses and testing
- Assist in development of test and inspection plans to ensure quality requirements are met and manufacturing process risks are mitigated
- Utilize common laboratory test equipment to establish relevant bench and animal testing models; Perform hands-on mechanical, optical, and electrical testing as needed
- Analyze test data using statistical tools, perform in-depth interpretation of results, and generate detailed technical reports
- Occasionally travel to clinical sites for device installation or maintenance
Skills Required
- Enrolled in an accredited 4-year university/college in an engineering discipline
- Previous technical internship/co-op experience is desirable
- Ability to use analytical techniques for the evaluation and solution of technical problems
- Apply and have strong understanding of engineering concepts
- Experience using SolidWorks or other CAD packages is highly desirable
- Knowledge of software languages such as Python is preferred
- Familiarity with medical device development and optical systems is preferred
- Prior work with biological samples is beneficial
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills

- Familiarity with designing or building optical assemblies preferred
