Job Overview
The early childhood teacher works with a team of educators to provide a stimulating educational program that develops children’s social-emotional, physical and intellectual growth, supports their artistic talents and interests, and promotes a healthy lifestyle. Our team of early childhood educators are dedicated to developing meaningful relationships with children from a variety of backgrounds, actively engaging families, and collaborating with one another to create a vibrant early childhood program.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain a learning environment based on the individual and group needs of children enrolled.
- Conduct large group activities that foster specific cognitive, academic, language and social skills.
- Provide one to one attention to children during free play to promote their thinking and language skills.
- Support children’s own ideas for play during indoor free play and outdoor time.
- Support children’s interactions with each other and help them extend their play in a group activity.
- Work with a small group of children on a planned activity to help them understand a concept, work on a skill, and develop task and social skills.
- Collaborate with other teachers to ensure that the program is inviting and nurturing for every child.
- Perform duties relative to the health needs of children according to our health care policy.
- Respond to physical needs of children, lift up to fifty pounds to meet health and safety needs, e.g. retrieve children who run away, lift children up to provide comfort, attend to toileting needs, etc.
- Manage routine tasks such as lunch, snack, bathroom breaks and nap time.
- Maintain observational data and records on individual children.
- Conduct parent/teacher conferences and complete written summaries.
- Establish a positive bond between home and school through a variety of formal and informal mechanisms.
- Actively participate in regularly scheduled individual and team supervision meetings.
- Utilize three professional days to expand and enrich knowledge of child development and teaching practice.
- Support programs’ active participation in meeting state licensing regulations, quality improvement initiatives (QRIS) and National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Accreditation.
Qualifications
- A.S. or B.S. degree in early childhood education with a minimum of two years’ experience in El CH.
- Department of Early Education and Care Teacher Certification.
- CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Experience using various screening and assessment tools to support quality improvement initiatives.
- Specific talents or interests in academic subjects, visual or performing arts, nature, sports and desire to enthusiastically share with children and colleagues.
- Caring and nurturing attitude towards children, excellent verbal and written communication skills, responsible, reliable and motivated to work as part of a team dedicated to helping children grow and learn within the context of an organized, well planned early childhood program
