Intern with local non-governmental organizations founded on the principles that human rights and civic values are the basis of every open and progressive society.
Due to the war in the 1990s and Kosovo gaining its official independence in 2008, this young country faces unique barriers in recovering from its past and establishing itself in the eyes of the local region as well as internationally. Some of the greatest concerns of a developing government are ensuring the protection of all citizens and the overall promotion of human rights. As a result, these organizations are dedicated to dealing with the past, protecting victims of human rights abuse, promoting the rule of law, and strengthening the role of young people and minorities as active changemakers in their communities. These organizations work to monitor, document, and report on human rights violations, law enforcement, and the protection mechanisms in place. Their aim is to continue to be an active defender and promoter of human rights in Kosovo as well as in the region in order to build a collective memory and promote peace building.
Depending on the Intern’s skill set and interest, the Intern will be assigned to one or more of the following projects associated with human rights and law in Kosovo:
- Research
- Journalism & Multimedia
- Education Development
- Project Planning & Implementation
- Policy Analysis
