Tufts University Employer Newsletter – August 2023

Dear Employer Partners,

We hope you are staying cool and enjoying the summer months! At the Career Center, we are hard at work planning our two Fall Career Fairs and other exciting programs for our employers. The semester will officially begin on September 5th when classes start on the Somerville/Medford Campus. We’re inviting employers to join us here in Medford for on-campus interviews this fall — if you are interested in arranging an On-Campus Interview, please submit a request on Handshake and reach out to willa.mayo@tufts.edu with any questions. Please note that we will not be hosting any on-campus programming the week of October 2nd-6th to accommodate a busy week of inauguration events welcoming our new president Sunil Kumar.

As always, feel free to connect with our team to discuss your upcoming recruitment needs!

Sincerely,

Employer Relations Team
Supporting the School of Arts & Sciences, the School of Engineering, and The School of Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) at Tufts

🍁 Fall Virtual Career Fair

This fall we will be hosting a virtual career fair followed by an in-person career fair (keep scrolling for in-person fair details!) Similar to this spring, we will be utilizing Handshake for our Fall 2023 Virtual Career Fair. Employers can host 30-minute group sessions throughout the fair and conduct 10-minute 1-on-1 video conversations with students.

Registration Fees for Fall 2023 Virtual Career Fair:

Virtual Career Fair Format

  • We are expecting 200+ employers to attend our upcoming virtual career fair, so we request that you register as soon as possible to confirm your spot
  • We also recommend that employers plan to have at least 2-5 representatives attend the fair to be able to host 30-minute group sessions concurrent with 10-minute 1:1 individual chat sessions with students.
  • We encourage attending employers to host at least one group session as it is the most efficient way to reach several unique students. Each group session can have a different descriptive title if you want to engage in a variety of topics, such as general info sessions, Ask Me Anything panels, a session around a particular role you are hiring for, etc.
  • Employers should update their Handshake profiles with new jobs and internships well in advance of the fair date. In addition, please highlight any Tufts alumni representatives by listing their name, class year, and major in your employer description for the fair.
  • Employers need to build out their schedules in advance of student registration opening. Students can only sign up for group sessions or one-on-one sessions after these are finalized and made visible in Handshake.
  • Students have the opportunity to attend a Tufts Virtual Career Fair preparation session to learn more about how to navigate a virtual career fair. Students will be required to schedule all one-on-one chat sessions and group sessions in advance of the fair. We are not responsible for students that attend the virtual event and are unable to access sessions or chats on the day of the event.
  • For more information about navigating Handshake’s Virtual Fair, view their Virtual Career Fair Quick Start Guide.

Registration Fees for Fall 2023 In-Person Career Fair:

Each In-Person Career Fair registration includes the following:

  • Registration for 2 representatives. Please note: Additional representatives may be added for $50 each, up to a total of four representatives per company.
  • 1 Table (6ft x 30in) and 2 chairs (bring tablecloth from your organization for your table)
  • Bagged lunch provided to each representative
  • Resume book sent to organization following Career Fair (students will opt-in to have resumes sent to employers)

💼 Consulting Networking Night

Our annual Tufts Consulting Networking Night is coming up on September 14th in the evening on the Tufts campus – our first time back “in-person” since 2019. Each year, we invite alumni (and some recruiters) from consulting firms to participate in this event. This is an opportunity for Tufts students to connect with consultants, learn more about the field of consulting, explore consulting as a possible career path, and strengthen communication and networking skills. The networking event includes a moderated panel discussion with alumni, as well as an open networking session. If you are an employer in the field of consulting and would be interested in attending this event, please contact Karen Dankers, Director of the Tufts Finance Initiative, at karen.dankers@tufts.edu.

🎥 Tufts Film and Media Studies (FMS) Winternships

The Tufts Film and Media Studies (FMS) Winternships are intensive internships held during winter break, usually lasting one to two weeks. These internships can be conducted in-person, hybrid, or remotely. They offer students immersive experiences in the media industries by placing them in prestigious organizations across the country. The Winternships provide valuable real-world experience in various media sectors, such as filmmaking, television, radio, advertising, marketing, public relations, digital media, and journalism. Participants engage in special projects, shadow professionals, and actively participate in the daily operations of their assigned sites.

Winterns are selected from a diverse pool of Tufts applicants who meet specific academic criteria, have relevant coursework in media studies, and submit well-researched and thought-provoking essays tailored to each Winternship site. Some Winternships may also be offered for course credit. Announcements and applications for Winternship sites are made in early October, and the selection process is typically completed by mid-November.

If you are interested in hosting a media Winternship, please submit this interest form, and informational emails will be sent in early September. For more information about FMS employer opportunities, you can visit the FMS website. If you have any questions, you can reach out to Gina O’Connor, the FMS Program Administrator, at gina.o_connor@tufts.edu.
